We undertake a great variety of plant and equipment examinations, all are carried out in our customer's premises at prearranged times to minimize disruption and ensure efficient scheduling of work time.
AIR RECEIVERS.
A thorough examination is required every 24 months and an interim working examination every 12 months. A written scheme of examination has been required since July 1994 (See Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000). A typical garage compressor and receiver is classed as a "Medium Sized Compressed Air System". The thorough examination is to be carried out by a competent person and is to determine the wall thickness of and the extent of any corrosion. Additional attention must be paid to any signs of defects including damage or fractures occurring where the compressor mounting brackets or fixing feet are welded to the air tank. All valves and fittings should be dismantled for thorough examination at intervals determined by the written scheme.
Any air receiver should be made to a recognized standard which should be stamped onto the body or identification plate and the year of manufacture should also be identified. The identification should also include the test pressure, the design pressure and the safe working pressure.
VEHICLE LIFTING PLATFORMS.
Lifting platforms are of various designs and can be of 4 Post. 3 Post, 2 Post and even single post construction. They are normally operated by wire lifting ropes actuated by a hydraulic cylinder. All parts of the mechanisms should be regularly examined and the wire ropes should be renewed after a maximum of six years. No rope wire should be changed individually except where damage is caused by the original installation or subsequent renewal operations. All platforms must have a device which prevents accidental fall in the event of a wire rope breakage. Consideration must also be given to a safety rail to prevent damage to the operators feet when the platform is descending and yet another device should prevent the vehicle moving off the platform when in the up position.
ENGINE CRANES OR HOISTS.
These are normally hydraulically operated and should be examined every 14 months. They have a lifting arm which can be extended to three or four positions with each position having its own marked safe working load.
OTHER DEVICES WHICH REQUIRE PERIODIC EXAMINATION.
- Fork Lift Trucks
- Hydraulic Jacks and other Jacking Devices
- Local Exhaust Ventilation Systems
- Gantries and Chain Blocks
